It is wonderful to see the pictures of the 50th reunion. Some of us couldn't get there for various reasons... and to be able to see the pictures of the reunion brings us up to date with our classmates. Looks like a great time was had by all... Congratulations to those who worked so hard to put this reunion together. Again everyone looks wonderful... Wishing all our classmates a good year ahead...

I am so happy to receive MANY positive comments about our 50th reunion. We on the committee are glad everyone seems to have had a really good time. Yes, we did have a lot of work to do and it was well worth it, but I would especially like to point out how much Nedra (Chapin) McElroy did, way above and beyond the ordinary! If you have any pictures to share please identify the people in them and send them to our webmaster, Bill Cook, at memories@shs58.org. He will add them to the photo album that is now a part of our website. 'Hope to see everyone who was at ! the 50th, and those of you who weren't, at the next one. Diane

E-mail: laburger1941@yahoo.com

I so enjoyed the DVD and 50th reunion book. To everyone responsible - thank you!

On September 2, 2008, after 20 years, I was forced into retirement from WFMY News 2 - Gannett when my job was eliminated due to restructuring - that's what they said. Interestingly the first 4 people forced out were 78, 68, 65 and 62. The 78 year old woman was with the station 49 years. WFMY has gone from 115 employees to 86 and I think Gannett has removed several thousand employees - some worked at the Star Gazette as did my father and brother for many years. So Sad!!! My husband and I just built a home in Haw River, NC and are now only a couple of miles from our only daughter who gave us our first grandchild in March of 2009. I'm still trying to get over my sudden retirement but each day gets better and better and getting our old house ready to sell takes up a good amount of time - we just hope the market turns about the time we are ready to sell. Loretta

I'm so pleased with the turnout for our 50th reunion. I know the whole reunion committee is very pleased with the turnout on Friday and Saturday night. It was the largest in years. You and the class should be very proud of yourselves for making this reunion a success. I know we had a very good time. The ones who had other commitments - they missed a very wonderful time. We hope to see everyone for our 55th.

Hi All, Sorry to say I missed our 50th reunion. My brief history is: Upon graduation from SHS, I became a flight attendant with Eastern Airlines based at JFK, met my husband Richard (who worked for American Airlines.) We married in 1965. Lived in N.J. for 4 years, then transferred to LAX in 1972. We have 2 sons Mark 40 and Ryan 30. Three grandsons: Christopher 20, Chandler 6, and Mason 4. We have lived in our home for 37 years. Love living here. We travel extensively, I enjoy cooking gourmet meals and entertaining family and friends. I belong to the Red Hat Society and go to several fun events with the group. Active in our Parish, St Peter Claver in Simi Valley. Would love to hear from any of the class of 59 members.

E-mail: rforrest@tulsarealtors.com

WOW!!! So happy to find the SHS 59 website. Thank you for a great job. Thanks to Chuck Bockus for calling me about the Reunion! I have spent the afternoon reading and "remembering". How can 50 years go so quickly?? My life has been an adventure: A great adventure. We have lived in Miami FL, Knoxville TN, Tulsa OK the Adirondacs of NY, and back to Broken Arrow, where we've been since 1985.

Bill and I spent many years in the ministry - he retired 6 years ago, and is now doing some remodeling work. I am a Realtor - busy and love it. We have 3 children and 8 grands - all of whom live in the Tulsa area. God is so good!! We are both in good health and get to travel a lot.

This summer we will celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary on August 9th, which will interfere with us being able to attend the HS reunion. Not sure if I can work that out. I was looking forward to coming. Again, my thanks to all of you who are making this happen. What a blessing to so many people who share something so special. I have such fond memories of Number Nine and Southside. I would love to hear from any of you "out there" who may remember me and want to say hello.

Hello All, Sometimes hearing from your past can be scary but in this case it is great! I will try to work out a schedule to come back for the reunion as I still have family in Pine City, NY. I am sure some of you know the Pendleton's, Norman's and O'Hart's.

My husband, after 57 years as a physician in Reno, retired. I retired as his office nurse in 1991. We have spent time traveling and our first love sailing at Lake Tahoe. The last two years, I have been co-President of the Nevada State Medical Assoc. Alliance. My term will be finished the second of May, 2009. It has been a challenge, a great learning experience and a joy working with our county members across the state and the American Medical Assoc. Alliance out of Chicago. Together,

David & I have 5 children, 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. We are fortunate to have most of the kids here in Reno. It certainly does make you stop and look at where the years went when it is time for family pictures.

I am a cancer survivor...YEAH!!!! One year in March. All is well. I give thanks every day for my continued good fortune and health.

I send kudos to the class committee that is working to put on this event. It is a time consuming work of art to put it altogether.

Hi, everyone - We've made some changes to our plans for our big 50th reunion in August. The date is August 22, 2009. We have reservations at Hilltop Inn. Everyone is probably familiar with the restaurant that has the big green wreath glowing from the hill every Christmas. There's also the shamrock in March. They have offered us a wonderful meal and there is a patio that is enclosed now so we can enjoy the view of the valley. It should be a great time and I hope everyone will be able to come and renew friendships and just have fun. We are in the process of putting a letter together and that will give you all the details so watch your mail for that. Again, if anyone wants to join our committee meetings e-mail me at Coolgrm1@stny.rr.com and I'll give you the meeting dates.

After 7 years in Florida, I decided to move on.  I'm now ending a year in the Elmira area.  Having sold my Elmira and Florida homes, I'm off on another journey - this time to Lubbock, TX.  I lived in El Paso for several years so Texas is not strange to me.  I can't seem to stay put for long!  I look forward to our 50th reunion.  Regards to all.

Hi everyone - I am happily among the retired, but, like most, I manage to be very busy with family issues. I am blessed to still have my mother at 92 and I spend a lot of time helping her remain in her home and continue to be active. My grandchildren live nearby, so I spend a lot of time driving them to school and helping out with other needs.

Our big Fiftieth Reunion is next year and the committee has dwindled somewhat since the 45th. I am hoping there are some new faces this year. Be sure to contact a committee member if you would like to be part of the planning process. My e-mail is coolgrm1@stny.rr.com. Let me know what your thoughts are on next year's get-together. Even if you can't come to a meeting, we would love input from anyone that wants to help us make decisions on where and when we want to celebrate this important milestone.

Hope to hear from lots of you soon.

Hi everyone! Since I missed the last two reunions, I am really looking forward to next year and our 50th. 50 years...hard to believe. I rarely see any of my classmates, so it will be fun for me to catch up.

I am still in Elmira (Southport), retired from teaching, and very busy. Right now I'm waiting for one of our daughters and her family to move back to New York from Texas. It's all happening quickly and they should be in the Syracuse area in 4 to 6 weeks. Very exciting. Now if we could just get the one in West Virginia closer to home. The other 3 are within 17 miles. There are 28 of us when do manage to get everyone together.

My husband, Larry, (Mansfield) is a retired Senior electronics field technician. We've been married almost 19 years and between us have 5 kids and all those grandchildren.

Plan on attending the reunion next year. (I remember shopping with my mother for a dress for her 25th reunion and wondering how she could be so old!!!!)

I only went to South Side High for 1 year and it was a half a day for my senior year but, I do remember the school. I was saddened to see that a few of my friends had passed away. Am retired, live in a rural area, had three sons and three lovely grandchildren, of course. Have been married for almost 41 years. Am very content with my life and I don't think I'd have it any other way.

My thanks to the class of 1959 for their vote of confidence in asking me to continue your home page. May I say that you are a welcome addition to the other Elmira Sites that I maintain (which are listed at Friends of SHS58). I will miss having Norm Towner as sort of an SHS sidekick on the net. He and I were classmates at Southside and have traded suggestions and stories over the years that he has done your website for you. One of my most favorite photos are of Norm and his wife (and your classmate) Joan Dersham when they were just teenagers before he went into the Navy. It's been on display at our SHS58 site for several years. You can view it by clicking here. Norm - the best to you and Joan. I wish you many more years of good health and happiness.
